
The Breastfeeding Program consists of a one-time prenatal class and a bimonthly Breastfeeding Discussion Group for after the baby is born. The one-time prenatal class is held monthly from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Women's Center located at Carlisle Regional Medical Center. For exact dates, please check under the "Events" Section.
After this first session you may join the Breastfeeding Discussion Group when you are ready after the birth of your baby. The Discussion Group is held on two Tuesdays, each month from 10:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon also at the Women's Center at the hospital. For exact dates, please check under the "Events" Section.
During this first prenatal class you will cover topics such as, the benefits of breastfeeding your baby; the first feeding; establishing an adequate milk supply; common concerns; returning to work; the social/psychological factors; and when to seek assistance. Our breastfeeding program is taught by an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant. Our goal is to provide you with the education and support you need to have a positive breastfeeding experience with your baby.
The cost is $21.00 for this program, which includes the Breastfeeding Discussion Group for after your baby is born. All mothers who have attended the prenatal class are eligible to attend the bimonthly Breastfeeding Discussion Group, free of charge. Pre-registration is required as the class size is limited to expectant mothers. Please register early, preferably by your fifth month in pregnancy. Pre-payment is required by sending a check to the Women's Center at 361 Alexander Spring Road, Carlisle, PA 17015 made payable to Carlisle Regional Medical Center prior to the start of the class.
