Progressive Care Unit Patient Care UnitsServices

The Progressive Care Unit (PCU) is a unit offering a multidisciplinary team focused on the delivery of care to our patients requiring constant observation and/or concentrated nursing care with cardiac monitoring.

We provide care for a wide variety of patients having acute or chronic illness and/or multiple complicating disease processes. Our effort is to provide a coordinated inpatient care delivery and education plan so these patients may return to activities of daily living.

Our PCU staff is committed to providing a high quality of care to all of our patients. We realize family members also have special needs and are a very important factor in the patient’s recovery. In order to deliver the best care possible to our critically ill patients, we ask that you follow these guidelines:

Visiting Hours

You are welcome to visit between the hours of 10 a.m. through 1 p.m. & 5:30 p.m. through 8 p.m. Please limit visitors to immediate family over the age of 14 and only 2 visitors at a time due to the patient’s need for rest. We ask that you do not bring small children or anyone that is not feeling well in to visit.

Phone Calls

Please avoid calling for patient updates between the hours of 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. & 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Vital information is being shared with nurses during this time and the nurses cannot give families the desired attention they deserve within these time periods.

Spokesperson(s) & HIPAA

For HIPAA privacy reasons and coordination of care, please have a designated spokesperson(s) for all communication. We will ask you for a password which must be used before any information is given out over the phone. The spokesperson should be the one who calls for updates so the nursing staff can concentrate on the patient without frequent telephone interruptions.

Understanding

You may be asked by a physician or nurse to step out of the patient’s room. Please cooperate and understand that if you are asked to leave the room it is because the necessary care needed by the patient cannot be delayed or compromised. We ask that ALL visitors comply with these guidelines. They may be adjusted in special circumstances to meet individual needs by the nursing staff if the patient is very ill.

Isolation: Your loved one may be on isolation precautions for various reasons. If you see a yellow sign or a stop sign on the door, please check with the nurse before entering.

Please call the Progressive Care Unit at (717) 960-1694. We will try to help you in any way we can. We care and want your loved one to recover as quickly as possible.
