October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month

"Red Ladies" Arrive at CRMC to Raise Awareness of Domestic Violence

CARLISLE, PA (October 1, 2021) – Carlisle Regional Medical Center has partnered with Domestic Violence Services of Cumberland and Perry Counties (DVSCP) in displaying two Red Ladies as part of its Silent Witness Project.

The Red Ladies are part of the Silent Witness Project, a national initiative that features life-sized cutouts representing those who have died due to domestic violence. The cutouts are on display in CRMC’s main entrance and in the CRMC emergency department. Each cutout includes information on the initiative and business cards with DVSCP’s contact information.

“Carlisle Regional Medical Center is proud to display the Red Ladies in our facility,” said Rich Newell, CRMC Chief Operating Officer and Administrator. “Domestic violence doesn’t discriminate. It can happen in any family and in any city or town. We want to do our part to raise awareness of domestic violence and of the free and confidential services available to help victims of crime, including domestic violence, and their families.”

In 2011, a total of 166 people died in Pennsylvania due to domestic violence, according to the Pa Coalition Against Domestic Violence. From July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2012, DVSCP served 1,246 victims of domestic violence.
